2011 was pretty much just another year, but looking back I kept thinking of all the things that happened in those 365 days. Here’s a list, in no particular order, to remind myself what went down: Keep reading…

And I’m going to let you finish, but I have the greatest dad of all time. My dad has taught me more than I could ever say. He preached to me (often falling on deaf ears) about all things in moderation. He did not preach to me about “always do your best”,”treat people with respect”, “do the next right thing”, “what you reap is what you sow”. Nope, I don’t recall one conversation about any of those things. In fact, we have never really had any heartfelt, passing-down-wisdom, touchy-feely discussions.
What did he do instead? He showed me every day how to do each of those things, and much, much more. He showed me how to accomplish anything I set my mind to. He showed me how make the best of any situation. He showed me that absolutely anything is possible. He showed me how to love and care for a family. He showed me honesty and hard work. Plus- he showed me how to fish, and he got me my first tattoo! I can trace most of the things I admire about myself back to my dad (and of course there was influence from mom, and other important people, too – no slight to them intended!) I remember in first grade telling my mom I wanted to look like dad when I grew up, and she replied “Your father is a handsome man.” Little did I know at the time, the unspoken words were really “I want to BE like dad when I grow up” and “Your father is a wonderful man”.
Thanks dad, for everything – you said just enough, and didn’t clutter the message by saying too much!
When I began my personal web site, back whenever that was, the domain GabeHarris.com was sadly already taken, and I had to use Gabe-Harris.com. By a stroke of luck, without really looking, I learned GabeHarris.com was now available! I instantly scooped it up, and I’m thrilled to have it. I feel, even more officially so, like the real Gabe Harris!
I don’t consider myself a technofile by any means, but I do get a crush on a new phone in a hot second. With the explosion of new, smarter, slicker, sexier phones, I’ve been drooling for a while. I previously toted around an older Blackberry Curve. It was a delightful entry into the world where the internet lives in the palm of your hand, and emails and social networks are always available. That mistake will never be made again, I’m certainly not in the Blackberry target demo. Drum roll… Keep reading…
New ink, the pics don’t do it justice, but it’s a sweet piece.

This new version of my site is done for now. More importantly, I have partnered with some great people from Virid to launch a new venture: Citrus Design Group. Holler at us for all of your creative needs!
And so is my site. Don’t try to use the contact form in the footer yet, it won’t get you anywhere. The contact form should work now! I’m using some CSS3 and HTML5, and WordPress (still), and jQuery (still), and the 960 Grid System. I have also drastically simplified the site, and cut out a lot of garbage. Most of the garbage is still available if you dig around, it’s just not blasted in your face like it was before. I got tired of all the nonsense I see all over so many sites, I really wanted to let content be the focus of the new design. Additionally I decided that font-replacement JavaScript is trash, so I’m using the @font-face technique. And I have completely abandoned trying to make the site look the same in all browsers. I have a script that should do some magic if you’re running an older version of IE (but I’m not checking what it actually does), the site is really designed for Chrome or Firefox (I’m guessing Safari looks similar to Chrome.)
BTW, if you want to “social bookmark” anything, you know how to do it, I’m not putting 497 icons all over the place to do it for you.
I like the new design, I was looking for something more “serious” feeling (maybe an effect of the 73 feet of snow we got this winter?)
Also left to do is to make some sense of a mobile version of the site. I haven’t looked at it on a mobile browser yet, but I’m guessing it could use some help.
I hope you enjoy the new site!
I like downloading free stuff, so I wanted to give something back. Here are 10 social media icons. They are flip flops, naturally. Use them however you see fit. The .zip file includes .png’s and psd’s in 2 sizes (I don’t know how well they’d work if you made them smaller than 128px wide). You are welcome to modify them and/or create new ones. If you have an extreme emotional reaction (good or bad) leave a comment. Here is the preview:
I hope you get some use out of them. It would be great if you credited me (via GreenFlipFlops.com) if/when you use them, but if not, you will have horrible things happen to you. If you’re not following me on Twitter, you should.
Finally, here is the download.
